News Bennett Wilson

Bennett Wilson Poole Saturday Slot

We are delighted to have this exciting new band play one of the Saturday night slots during Glasgow Americana.

Danny Wilson (Danny and the Champions of the World, Grand Drive) and Robin Bennett (The Dreaming Spires, Goldrush, Saint Etienne) join forces with Tony Poole (Starry Eyed and Laughing), producer extraordinaire and king of the electric twelve-string Rickenbacker to form Bennett Wilson Poole, whose debut album has been on the receiving end of almost ubiquitous high praise.

News update: Glasgow Americana 2017 Opening Night

Glasgow Americana Opening Night
‘The Late Great Townes Van Zandt Tribute’
Featuring Rachel Sermanni, Jefferson Hamer, Davie Scott, Roseanne Reid, Jonas and Jane, plus special guest

Wednesday 4th October 2017
The Drygate Glasgow

An evening celebrating the works of one of the most revered Texan singer/songwriters will open this year’s Glasgow Americana Festival.

The Late Great Townes Van Zandt Show has got the blessing of his family as Townes’ son, John has given permission for the title of the gig, which will be staged at Drygate on October 4.

Bob Dylan described one of Townes’ songs, Pancho and Lefty, as one of the best songs ever written and countless Americana acts cite Townes as a major influence.

Rachel Sermanni, Jefferson Hamer, Roseanne Reid, Davie Scott (The Pearlfishers) as well as Jonas & Jane are already lined up.

Each act will sing two Townes’ songs plus one of their own.

Picking songs from Townes’ impressive catalogue will be difficult – listening to them re-worked will be easy and a real pleasure.

News: Martha Fields & Roseanne Reid Join Festival Line Up

Martha Fields & Roseanne Reid Join Festival Line Up

Saturday 7th October Evening Show

Female singer/songwriters from Texas and Edinburgh – Martha Fields and Roseanne Reid – will display their undoubted talents at the Glasgow Americana Festival this year.

Singer/songwriter Marty Fields is from Austin and rising Scots star, Roseanne Reid will be performing a double bill at the CCA Cinema on the evening of Saturday, October 7.

Marty – who is also appearing at the Hazy Recollections’ matinee show at The Glad Café the same day – is based part of the year in France, but no matter where she stays or plays she creates emotional, Southern music summoning the expressive power of Guthrie, Dylan, Gentry and Williams.

Her Southern White Lies album has enjoyed great critical acclaim and it ended as the No 2 CD of 2016 on the Euro Americana Charts.

Edinburgh-based Roseanne Reid – who was praised by Steve Earle, no less, as an outstanding songwriter – is growing in stature and popularity as a solo acoustic act.

Roseanne’s distinctive Americana song writing style and smoky vocals gained her a spot on the Radio 2 Folk Award Nominations 2015 list, for which only four acts from around the country were selected.

Her debut EP Right on Time was released in 2015 and will be followed up this year.

Marty and Roseanne are two exceptional talents from both sides of the Atlantic with highly individual songs and styles, so a special evening is in store.
